Freddie’s flowers have brought me so much joy and pleasure in what has been a really tough year. I never would have believed that arranging flowers would have lifted my mood especially as someone who isn’t particularly gifted with creativity! Each week I look forward to opening the box and discovering what’s inside. It’s almost become a sort of weekly ritual – looking at the beautiful imagery, learning about new flower varieties and taking that 15 minutes out of my busy week to do something peaceful. It really does bring a smile to my face, all of the stress and noise disappears, replaced with a sense of calm and pure enjoyment!

Having flowers in my home brings nature and colour indoors, especially in these darker winter months. They also make my home smell amazing which I love! It feels like a little treat each week and I’m surprised how something so simple has such an impact on my mood. Not only do I love the process of being creative – something completely different to my job, but I get a real sense of achievement once I have finished and then I get to admire my lovely flower arrangement all week. Actually, Freddie’s flowers are such amazing quality that mine tend to last two weeks – another bonus!
The flowers arrive in beautiful packaging delivered by one of their (very friendly!) bike riders. It may sound weird, but the excitement of opening the paper and seeing which flowers are contained in the delivery grows each time I get a delivery – it’s almost like a dopamine hit when I open the parcels. Everything is 100% biodegradable, there is no plastic and therefore less waste. I like to be kind to the planet so this is important to me. Inside the box, there are beautiful cards with information about the flowers, how to look after them and a step-by-step guide on how to arrange them. The imagery is so pretty it could be in a frame! Firstly, I take some time to read through the information and familiarise myself with the plan. Then I take out all of the beautiful stems and prepare them as instructed. The flowers arrive in bud so they last so much longer than any flowers you find at the supermarket which is wonderful value but also, you get to watch them unfurl and bloom as the days go by.

As you can see, the buds appear gradually, opening up with vibrant colours and changing day by day. This dazzling purple iris suddenly appeared after a couple of days, such a beautiful colour against the pinks and greens. I also love the varying textures that really bring the arrangement to life.
Like me, you may not be someone who is arty or creative, but trust me, this is for everyone and with such pretty flowers that go so beautifully together you can’t really go wrong! This time, I ordered a shorter vase along with my Freddie’s flowers to try a different style of arrangement. Buying vases is of course optional, but as with the flowers the quality and style is great so I added this one as an extra treat! I had fun with a new sort of challenge and cutting the stems shorter to see how they would sit in this different vase.

If you’ve found yourself in a bit of a slump lately, I encourage you to give this a try and you will not be disappointed! Simply taking 15 minutes or so be mindful and present, to smell the flowers, feel the textures and peacefully arrange the stems together is heavenly.
